Fontana Elementary School #28
Fontana, California, 2004
This new Elementary School was designed to house the growing number of students in the Inland Empire.
The buildings were designed as a modern interpretation of some of the older historic mission style schools in the Fontana School District. The Buildings were a combination of site-built wood framed structures and modular construction. The street entries are flanked with public and private parking and the center of the site opens to a series of paved and natural playfields.
The academic buildings form two perpendicular wings joined at the vertex by the central Administration Building. This arrangement was designed so that the Administration had the ability to view all areas of the campus and maintain a control point at the primary entry. The other benefit of this site strategy was to gain some control over the problematic winds and optimize the natural day lighting gained by the north/south orientations.
