Los Angeles Unified School District, Santee Education Complex
South Central Los Angeles, California, 2004
The location of the school lies in a commercial/industrial zone in South Central Los Angeles. The school was conceived as an urban oasis amidst the challenging surroundings.
The academic buildings were located along the perimeter of the site so that the students could enjoy the central open areas for socialization and outdoor activities. The exterior facades act as a protective skin that unfolds into an elegant series of open pathways connecting the 5 separate buildings. The remainder of the campus is dedicated to a competition sized pool and athletic fields.
The school houses over 2200 students in 310,000 square feet of Classrooms, Library, Gymnasium and Auditorium.
