Temple Beth Avodah

Newton, Massachusetts, 1999

The Existing Synagogue had become too small for the growing congregation and a new school addition was needed to support the growing teaching and administration departments of the organization. The 1998 renovation included the extension of the Temple and the addition of a new classroom building.

The floor area of the Temple was increased to handle twice the capacity of the former room. Movable partitions were installed within the hall to allow the room to function for both large and small gatherings. The Kitchen and support areas were redesigned to handle the larger functions and all support spaces were brought up to current ADA standards.

The new Classroom Building was added and connected to the Sanctuary by a new central Lobby. The three story high building supports all the educational programs as well as the administrative functions. A new children’s play area was built in the tree-lined rear courtyard. New landscaping and modified parking helped to define the new campus within the heavily wooded site.
