The Greater Good Coffee Shop
Redlands, CA, 2008
The Coffee Shop is located on the Lobby level of a large downtown office building. The space looks north to a landscaped exterior courtyard and distant mountain view. Seating is comprised of tables and fixed counters to provide for the diner as well as the laptop user.
The Coffee Shop is operated by “Ability Counts”, an organization dedicated to finding meaningful jobs for individuals with developmental disabilities. The open and inviting space exceeds the requirements for the ADA by providing a fully accessible Kitchen and coffee prep area. A side exit door links the room to the Courtyard for additional dining and entertainment.
Energy efficient xenon, low-voltage and florescent lighting were used in throughout the establishment and many sustainable and recycled materials were used throughout the space. Materials were chosen for their recycled content, and many were selected from local vendors to minimize the embedded costs of transportation.
