The Marymount School

New York, N.Y. 2000

A land marked townhouse in Manhattan’s Upper East Side was transformed into a private Middle School.

In order for the building to function as a school the interior needed to conform to all modern codes while the exterior had to be maintained for Landmark standards. Great care was given to preserving all the original interior and exterior details while developing new circulation, Restrooms, Cafeteria, Kitchen and Exercise Room. The smaller rooms became informal classroom and larger formal rooms accommodated the Library, Entry and a Computer Lab.

All new mechanical and structural systems were implemented including a central computer and communications facility connecting the Middle School to the main campus a few blocks away.

Extensive coordination was maintained throughout the design process with the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission to insure the Landmark status of this important part of the New York Landscape.
